Program Overview
The University of Oxford is one of the oldest and most distinguished educational institutions in the world. The Brockport Oxford Program is one of the oldest and most respected of the many study abroad programs in Oxford and is administered in partnership with Arcadia University College of Global Studies.
At the heart of the Oxford Experience is membership of an Oxford College. Through Arcadia, the Brockport Oxford Program enrolls each participant as an associate (i.e., non-matriculated) member of an Oxford College.

Housing and Orientation
Housing:
About half of Oxford's students live "out of college" in the City of Oxford and it is in this type of housing that participants in the Brockport Oxford Program are housed. Since Oxford University is spread over several miles throughout the city, students travel by bike or bus to libraries, lectures, classes, the "rooms" of a tutor, or to the University's dining hall. Program participants will be housed together in a home in the Jericho neighborhood of Oxford. This is a popular area for students and within a twenty minute walk of the University and High Street. Students live in houses and apartments that are normally used by Oxford students in a twin shared accommodation. In general, five or six participants will share the use of a fully-equipped kitchen, a sitting room and bathrooms. High speed internet and Wi-Fi options are available in most houses. As associate members of an Oxford College's Junior College Room, participants in the Brockport Oxford Program are always welcome to dine in that college's dining hall. Students pay per meal and are not required to participate in a meal plan.
Orientation:
The academic portion of the program is preceded by an on-site orientation program conducted by Arcadia in Oxford. Orientation is mandatory for all participants. During this orientation, participants are introduced to their tutors and complete the process of developing the specific details of their tutorials. The orientation program is designed to provide participants with an introduction to Oxford, to Britain and to the British way of life and academic systems.

Curriculum
All instruction on the Brockport Oxford Program is arranged on an individual basis. Normally a participant in the Brockport Oxford Program will prior to departure, identify topics to be studied as their major and minor tutorials. The program's academic advisors in Oxford will assign each participant individual tutors, all of which are fellows or lecturers at the Colleges of Oxford University. These tutors will, in conference with the participant, develop a detailed and highly individualized academic program of tutorial meetings. Normally the tutorials are one-on-one, but occasionally students studying in the same topic area are paired. Students meet with their tutor weekly for their major area of study and bi-weekly for their minor areas of study. In addition to the tutorials, students will also complete a mandatory core course.
For each tutorial, the student (after consulting a reading list provided by the tutor) will write an essay that is usually read at the meeting. The tutorial system encourages individual research and independence of thought. Occasionally the tutor will offer a related lecture or seminar that s/he will invite the student to attend.
The Tutorial Method
Teaching in Oxford consists of an individual weekly meeting ("tutorial") with your professor ("tutor") who will assign a paper to be written for each meeting. The essay will be the basis for a discussion and critique of the issues it examines. The process- research, writing, analysis and discussion- is the heart of the tutorial.
Tutorial Topics:
At the start of each term the student will meet with the program's academic advisor and will jointly plan an academic program that is consistent with Brockport's academic program and the requirements of the participant's own degree program.
One of the most important features of the Brockport Oxford Program is that participants are able to study on an individual basis, almost any academic subject normally taught at the upper division level (junior or senior year) except the laboratory sciences. Each semester a few students also pursue tutorials in mathematics and non lab-based natural and physical sciences.
