Program Description:

Eric M. Steel Schoalrship for International Study 


The Eric M. Steel Scholarship for International Study supports undergraduate students’ study overseas through The College at Brockport or SUNY. Dr. Steel was a pioneer in developing and offering credit-bearing international study programs for students throughout the SUNY system. This scholarship should be based on merit and need of individual who fulfill the following requirements:

  • Undergraduate student in good standing at The College at Brockport

  • Overall GPA of 2.75 or higher at the time of application

  • Demonstrate potential for success in studying overseas

  • Preference given to first-time traveler

  • Accepted in a SUNY Study Abroad Program for Spring travel


To apply for the scholarship, a college level essay addressing the following questions is required. (The essay should be double-spaced, consist of no more than 500 words and saved as a .PDF file to upload to the scholarship application website.)

  • The impact that the experience of immersion in the culture of the country will have on your studies and future career plans.
  • How experiencing another culture will help you to better understand your own country's culture and way of life.
  • Why the study abroad experience is an important part of any student’s growth and development.


Your application must be completed (Study Abroad application completed, Scholarship application completed, and all supporting forms submitted) by the following scholarship deadline dates:
