International Education Week 2020

International Education Week (IEW) is a joint initiative of the US Department of State and the US Department of Education in an effort to promote programs that prepare US citizens for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences.
 

Join us in celebrating any of the events below throughout the week of November 2 – 6, 2020.

The Center for Global Education and Engagement will hosts all events virtually. 

 

Monday, November 2 

Remote International Internships Information Event 
Monday, November 2 from 11am -12pm

Join us as we kick off International Education Week with an information session to learn about our newly developed program, Remote International Internship for spring 2021! As more and more businesses go remote in response to the ongoing challenges, so do many internships. During this event, a representative from Brockport’s partner, EUSA Academic Internships, will speak about internship placements that are available in Dublin, Ireland and Prague, Czech Republic so students can continue to gain an international work experience and build their resume from the comfort and safety of home!

Wednesday, November 4 

Brockport’s NEW Global Citizenship Virtual Exchange Programs Information Event  
Wednesday, November 4 from 1:00- 2:00

Brockport is excited to announce an exciting new series of online courses: the Global Citizenship Virtual Exchange Programs. In this information event, students and faculty will learn about the three Global Citizenship Virtual Exchange Programs being offered for Winter 2021:  

  • Global Gender Equality: Africa Bridge and Empowering Women and Girls in Tanzania with Dr. Barbara LeSavoy 
  • Community Health Clinical in Peru: Sacred Valley Health with Dr. Uletha Jones 
  • Building Emotional and Physical Health, and Wellness among Bangladeshi Children and Youth in Bangladesh with Dr. Pamela Beach  

In these 3 credit online experiential courses, students will contribute to global sustainability by completing a project in small groups, in partnership with community based and nonprofit organizations around the world.  Students will gain skills in intercultural communications and collaboration by completing a project for one of these partner organizations through the framework of the United Nations Sustainability Goals. Partner organizations around the world will work with groups of students to develop these stories and receive use of the final products. 
 

Jeopardy! World Tour 
Wednesday, November 4 from 5:30pm- 6:30pm

Test your international trivia knowledge and compete against your peers in a game of Jeopardy! Gather a group of friends or play solo, as the Center for Global Education and Residential Life facilitate questions about international flags, customs, food and more. Clues will be read in the form of answers, and participants must phrase their response in the form of a question. Winner(s) will receive a study abroad t-shirts or tote bag! 



Thursday, November 5 

Virtual Exchange: Globalizing the Classroom 
Thursday, November 5 from 10:00am -11:00am

The presenters will share their journey and lessons learned in their experiences with globalizing the classroom as well as the numerous benefits for students in increasing cultural awareness. Presenters will describe developing collaborative globalized curricula with applied learning and/or project-based components, collaborate globally (both on the student and faculty levels), and tips on team teaching with colleagues from diverse culture and linguistic backgrounds. 


CELT Workshop: Supporting Student Success: International Faculty’s Experience 
Thursday, November 5 from 12:30pm – 1:30pm

The members of the International Faculty Learning Community (FLC, 2019-2020) will share their experience of supporting student success at Brockport. They will discuss success and challenges they have encountered in this journey. Together with the participants, the presenters will explore ways to support students, contribute to an inclusive campus climate, and build a better Brockport together. Registration closes at midnight the day prior. A link to Teams will be sent after registration. Session is recorded for future reference.

Undergrads, are you ready for the global workforce? You can gain experience in International Affairs, without having to travel Internationally. The SUNY Washington Internship Program help you gain experience working for an International Organization, or on International Issues from your own living room, or in Washington, DC. Internships could include options such as: the U.S. State Dept., Foreign Embassies, International NGOs, Think Tanks, International Development Organizations. The staff from the SUNY Washington Internship Program will discuss the possibilities for International-related internships; the application process; the credits and components of the program; and the benefits for your resume, networking and career for participating.

You earned your degree – congratulations! Are you ready for the ‘real world’? If you are applying for post-completion OPT and are looking for a job in your field, there are lots of things you should consider. This workshop will give you all the basics on starting your job search, including preparing the right resume, job interviewing tips and tricks, where to look for the right job, and so much more!

CELT Workshop: An invitation to International Faculty: Sharing Your Experiences on Teaching, Faculty-Student Interaction, and Sense of Belonging via Online Surveys

The International Faculty Learning Community (2019-2020) is conducting a research on the international faculty’s experiences on teaching, faculty-student interaction, and sense of belonging at SUNY Brockport. We would like to invite international faculty, full-time and part-time, to join us virtually in a CELT session and participate in three Qualtrics online surveys with an estimation of 15 minutes each. Study One is on the international faculty’s sense of belonging, Study Two is on the international faculty’s teaching experience, and Study Three is on international faculty’s experiences mentoring and interacting with students. After this CELT session, the attendees may choose to participate in an optional 60-minute follow-up focus group discussion virtually before the end of fall 2020. Once the research project is completed, the researchers will share with the participants the findings of this study. The ultimate goals are to make recommendations for the campus to support the international faculty members and to contribute to building a better Brockport together!
